Ryan Annett is a Canadian contemporary artist and children’s author whose work moves between two distinct worlds: emotionally charged intuitive abstraction and the quiet, storybook warmth of Blueberry Borough.
New Brunswick · CanadaSelf-taught and visually impaired, Ryan has built an international creative career by trusting instinct, memory and feeling. His paintings have reached collectors around the world, with exhibitions in Italy, Canada, Scotland, Indonesia and the United States, including three museum exhibitions.
His ink-and-watercolour illustrations grew from a desire to create places of safety and calm. Inspired by the storytelling traditions of Beatrix Potter, E. H. Shepard and the gentle worlds of classic children’s literature, Ryan created A Blueberry Borough Farm Tale—a series populated by chickens, mice and other animals drawn from life on his New Brunswick farm.
In 2026, The Beatrix Potter Society featured Ryan’s work in its Inspired by Beatrix series, recognizing the way he carries that tradition of observation and tenderness into a world of his own.

“As my vision changes, I am learning to paint less from what I see and more from what I feel.”
Ryan’s intuitive paintings are direct records of inner experience—breath, anxiety, pain, memory and the persistent arrival of hope. Rather than sketching or correcting, he works in a one-and-done process that lets movement and colour carry the emotional truth of the moment.
The two bodies of work are not opposites. One offers refuge; the other names the storm. Together, they form an honest portrait of an artist determined to keep making, whatever changes may come.

Ryan has also contributed his art to charitable efforts, including work with the Jack Martin Fund in New York City to help raise money in support of Mount Sinai Children’s Hospital.

Before returning his focus to physical painting and books, Ryan established a significant presence in the NFT art world. Collectors purchased more than $200,000 worth of his digital work through cryptocurrency, extending his audience across borders and demonstrating the strength of his art in a new collecting culture.
